An Oration for Cde. Robert Mathebula

The quality of an individual should not be judged in accordance to the works he produces but the depth to which his works reach and touch the souls of others…Nkwame Nkruma

Death

Once again you have struck,
Causing unrepairable turmoil to our nation
Like a tornado you’ve come flushing in and destroyed in us a peace and gen of eternity
Like a flourishing chasm you cause bulges in our stomachs
With just one strike you have stolen a lad from our midst

As you electrify our hearts causing fires of anger to our space
Yes…you have caused us to fume
As anger flinches our gut
And fear overwhelms our being
For a time we may baffle as loiters lost and confused
As a son of the nation you have taken under your disgusting wing
A young man who was in the process of unleashing his potential for the betterment of our land
A lad who had a junior to look after and fend for
A son to a woman whose heart bleeds in anguish and dismay at your unwavering ways

The nation cries
While the ground houses yet another one of our own
The nation cries
As you turn our lives upside down though momentally
The nation cries
As you hide the scattered remains of an anointed son of our nation
The nation cries
As you death scorn our land and send airy signals to our land
Yet the nation rejoices
As when no longer in our midst, our son rests in eternity
He watches over our scatterings souls and dying heart
He rests amidst the great of our heros who gave us today
He nurtures the children who before him escaped the madness and ruthlessness of the world
So death be not proud
As our son has risen
Our son lives and continues to live in our hearts
We beed farewell to meet again in days to come

When our hearts shall beat not more
We too shall join the chorus of leaders stolen by death
