Poetry

As we clinch our fists in celebrating Africa Day 25 May, we remember those heros and heroins who defeated the ends of dehumilisation, whose psychology stood the teast of time, whose spirituality conquered all and whose belief and faith made them strong in the most outrageous of situations...This to me emplifies the plight of the African Woman, whose incredible contribution to the struggle is often forgotten and played down. I salute the mother, daughter, aunt, wife, grandmother, mentor, inspirator, motivator - who gave our men the strenght to fight for the course...

Mama Africa

You are the pride of my land
The beauty of this the land of Africans
You are she goddess of this land
The mother to the seas and mountains
The child of Cougar and Jaggaur
You are the spade digging deep in the soil for gold

African woman
You are daughter to the natural ore of our land
The platinum found eMzantsi
The Ivory in the Ivory Coast
The iron found in Central Lands
The oil in Equatorial Gunie
You African Woman are the head train travelling throughout our land
You are the feet of Ezakiel
The legs of Natalle duToit

African Woman
You lifted on your shoulders our brother so they could stand tall
You nurtured your offspring’s, educated them to enable them to reach their heights
You held high the morality of the indigenous Black People
You feed nations from seeds
Taught your people how to love and be loved
You humbled the people of Africa

African Woman
For centuries you gave up your dreams
To see through those of your men and children
You stood in the back seat, giving fame and pushing forward your man
You stay at home while he went to the city of Gold to mine Africa’s natural Resources for foreigner
You took on ploughing and sowing, building and became the head of your home
You became the men/indoda in the absences of our brothers/indoda emnyame

Mama Africa
You have braved evil
Captured hearts
Built families
Feed nations
Sheltered all of Africa’s descendants

You shone when the sun refused to set
Caring when our people needed love
You have smiled when teeth were demolished
You African woman have bore in you bastard children
Yet loved and cared for them at all costs
You have endured pain – the worst kink any human can bare
You have been physically tortured
By those who did as they pleased on your body
But your soul they never captured
They took you in and electrocuted you
Attempted to break your being
But they failed
They have ridiculed your worth
Made you feel unattractive and undesirable
They burnt your face
Hand-cuffed your hands
And clamped your feet
Attempted to silence your further
You instead defeated them with your head and heart

With no limbs only you African woman can rise and shine
You had faith in this land – Africa
You loved this land – Africa
You remain loyal to this Land - Africa
You are a child of this Land – Africa
In fact you are worthy of being elevated to be this land – Africa

Woman of Africa – You are Africa
